In recent weeks The Westminster Wing has been trawling through various forms of social media to gauge the public mood on the current progress of Brexit negotiations between the government and the EU. We were not surprised to find such high levels dissatisfaction with not only both teams of negotiators, but also the broadcast and printed

media’s standard of reportage.

What did surprise us though was the volume of leave supporters calling for some kind of positive action, protests and even a desire to bring the country to a standstill with blockades similar to the fuel protest in 2000.

Though protests are a favourite strategy for the far-left, particularly prevalent since Corbyn became Labour leader, they are a rarity on the right.

There are many explanations as to why right of centre supporters and activists don’t do mass public protests, many are obvious and a few are not so obvious!

Political protesting by “socialists” has existed for centuries, long before the word even existed. Usually inspired by terrible working practices imposed by mill, mine or factory owners, or chronic housing conditions. Workers became organised through trade unions leading to the formation of the Labour party. Encouraged by historical victories, socialists have never forgotten the power of protest.

Socialists like a protest

Those early marches and protests throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, some of them violent, were just and necessary, few would argue otherwise. Those times were tough and there was little else those affected could do without a voice in parliament.

But today’s left wing protesters have forgotten a very important component of popular protest: “just cause”! Demonstrating against a visit by an American President or in protest of a page depicting topless models can hardly be seen as a class struggle! Modern socialists are largely comprised of middle class students, well paid public sector professionals or supporters of Middle East terrorism. They are as far away from their original cause as it is possible to get.

The left still possess the ability to muster large numbers of protesters on the streets through their well-funded unions and affiliated groups. Bussing hundreds, sometimes thousands of people around the country complete with sponsored “Unite the Union” placards and £25 cash in hand to buy a Starbucks coffee or a Pret a Manger falafel sandwich whilst uploading images of the events on their latest iPhone is a common occurrence should their dear leader deem it necessary.

Comprised mostly of under worked students, strikers and the unemployed, it’s unlikely they will pass on the call to march due to heavy work commitments at the office! And this brings us neatly to the near non-existent will to protest by those on the right of centre politics.

With little or no history in organising mass demonstrations, chiefly because of a lack of cause, organisational machinery and work or family commitments, the likelihood of witnessing a demonstration by Tory supporting members of the public is lower than finding a pulled pork sandwich in Finsbury Park Mosque! Ordinary Tory supporters simply have better things to do with their time and view those who do public outrage on the streets as “not our sort of people”! Rightly or wrongly this is the current state of affairs.

Given the above brief summary of the history of popular protest, it would be a mistake to assume it is solely supporters on the right that are exhibiting growing unrest with Theresa May’s Brexit divorce proceedings. Our analysis of 51 social media groups, comprising some 400, 000 members and contributors reveals a very eclectic mix of socioeconomic groups, race and genders displaying a desire for open revolt against the government’s lack of assertiveness with the EU and increasing anger at the suggestion of a protracted transition to the exit door.

Our analysis leads us to believe a substantial segment of leave supporters are close to tipping point! These groups are repositories for frustrated, disgruntled, mostly ordinary citizens who feel their concerns and views are being ignored by the media and politicians, they are a disenfranchised majority, not dissimilar to those voiceless souls of the 18th and 19th centuries and are not too far away from organising a collective protest of significant proportions.

Any government that ignores these people is destined to experience the wrath of mass dissatisfaction and with it, the political disruption many insensitive administrations faced over the last 200 years.

Under Ed Miliband’s leadership the once mighty Labour Party became nothing more than a protest movement for the militant public sector monilith and

hopeless welfare claimants. This was bad, very bad – particularly for those die-hards who spent their entire life supporting,  representing or simply depending on this vital parliamentary beacon for the working classes throughout the UK.

But since Jeremy Corbyn seized control, there is now a real possibility that Britain’s second most successful political party will become a sad tribute band, offering incipit, unconvincing impersonations of its former glorious past.

Leftwing poster-boy Owen Jones has been busy analysing the success of his Marxist cousins in Spain. He’s smitten with Podemos, the ant-austerity, high tax and spend equivalent of Militant Tendency of the 1980’s lead by trade

unionists and thugs.

Jones has a soft spot for the Podemos leader: Pablo Inglesias! He’s particularly impressed by this section of the Spaniards speech;

So if you’re part of Britain’s battered, bruised and demoralised left, you should listen when Iglesias speaks. Last year, he delivered a speech berating the traditional left’s failure to communicate. Leftwing students never spoke to “normal people”, he said, and treated working-class people as though “they were from another planet”, bewildered that they did not respond in the way Marxist textbooks said they should. The enemy, says Iglesias, “wants us small, speaking in a language no one understands, in a minority, hiding behind our traditional symbols”.

Do you get the irony there? Jones is infamous across Twitter for blocking people with opposing views to his own! Yet he’s advising his comrades to get out and talk to “normal people”! – And what’s more, he thinks it’s a good idea!

We can now draw a safe conclusion, if Owen Jones doesn’t listen to his own advice, why the hell should anyone else?

Spain is positioning itself as an ally against austerity policies imposed from the wealthier Northern European power-houses!

The ultra left-wing party “Podemos”, have held a triumphant demonstration in Madrid, protesting against debt and anti-austerity measures imposed  by the Northern European power-houses.

Italy’s leftists are flirting with a similar movement and will almost certainly find themselves drawn in to an axis against the EU!

A Contagion of debt avoidance will surely blow the European Project to pieces over the next couple of years.

London is “The Destination” for Britain’s “anti-everything” protesters today.

Unions, the occupy movement, pro-NHS, anti-capitalists and every other hopeless cause is represented. Not a private sector worker in sight. It’s the

water drinkers, demanding the water carriers deliver more!

But wait, Spain’s “Podemos” movement are also out in force! They too are demanding everything.

Put simply, the government is not taking enough in taxes from the hard-working to subsidise perpetual students and all other non-productive state dependents.

Meanwhile, British workers silently go on providing the services these protesters expect, by working Saturdays in shops, bars, call-centres and every other private sector industry that ensures these perpetually offended leftists are catered for.

The Greeks have frequently flirted with Communism in recent 20th century history. They are perceived as a bureaucratic and corrupt nation.

The Greeks simply expect the other person to pay for their socialist lifestyle. Even Greek millionaires were tax-exempt prior to the financial crisis. Bread makers and Taxi Drivers are considered “Artisans” – and can retire on a generous pension before they reach their sixties!

Greek Flirtation with Communism

Greek Flirtation with Communism

Joining the Euro zone must have seemed logical, widening their highly subsidised dependencies across 27 wealthier nations. The Germans,  French and English would happily underwrite their profligacy.

So when the world’s economy imploded, their assumed dream of offloading their deficit became their nightmare. The troika, dominated by Frau Merkel forced a new policy on the Greeks “austerity”!

It hasn’t gone down well. Full of righteousness indignation the far left Syriza Party have roused the bloated public sector blob into a revolution. Tomorrow (Sunday 25th January 2015) will produce a Greek government headed by yet another “something for nothing” regime. Syriza will demand those Euro Zone nations who have paid the Greeks wage bill for 3 years now renegotiate,  or, as expected,  wipe out the debt.  This is yet another example of Socialism in action!

A Greek exit (Grexit) from the Euro Zone is anticipated over the next few months. What lies in store for the Greek people is uncertain. It won’t be pleasant or easy, but we can be certain Spain, Italy and Portugal will be watching with interest.

We shall update this story with exit polls and the eventual result as it happens.

Over on Guido’s blog, there is a compelling assault on the Fabian Society. The assertion, not unfounded, highlights the historical, dubiousPaul Staines (Guido Fawkes), memberiship of this controversial and highly disturbing cult. The Fabians seem to succesfully link Socialism with some Nazi ideologies,  in particular, eugenics.

This weekend sees the Fabians anual conference “Causes to Fight For” – This, rightly,  puts the spotlight of the media upon them. Hopefully,  on “The Westminster Wing” a Fabian will show-up and counter Guido’s claims.
